how to compare the photos. Today's house has a full third floor.
Match the fireplaces. See the large gable to the left of the fireplace,
and see it in its current version as a small gable. If you get
close to where the porch used to be, you can actually see the
old columns integrated into the new remodel. The rounded corner
on the back left is still the same today.
In 1913 this was the
home of Mr. W. T. Whitney. With no house between it and Highland
Drive at the time, "From its balcony can be seen both the
Olympic and Cascade Ranges of mountains, as well as Lake Union
and the Sound. the effect of the city lights at night is exceptionally
well fitted to its location." |
