Preserving our Community Heritage...Now and For The Future

You're at Kerry Park!

The first photo was taken about 1944. The small boy is enjoying a drink from the fountain in the park, which contains fantastic views of downtown and Elliott Bay. The fountain has been moved a bit in the now photo, but small boys still enjoy the water fountain. The dog water dish you see is a common sight on sidewalks in Queen Anne, especially in front of businesses along the "Ave".

And if you walk around the other side of the sculpture, here is the usual view.

Kerry Park was a gift to the city from the Kerrys, a successful family with a home down the street, as well as other donors who lived in the area. A plaque on the wall states: "Kerry Park given to the City in 1927 by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sperry Kerry, Sr., so that all who stop here may enjoy this view."

The sculpture was added in 1971, a gift from Kerry's daughters, according to the Seattle Parks and Recreation web site.

And in early 2004, the Black House located behind the fountain in both pictures, was razed. Details from a Seattle Post-Intelligencer article are available here. (If link is broken, please notify us at the email below.)
