Passionate Local Historian Bob Frazier

I have recently learned that Bob Frazier passed away on October 26 at age 81. A Lakeside and UW graduate, Bob moved to Queen Anne in 1962, and from 1980 until relocating to a nursing home in Auburn a few years ago, he lived at 2406 Bigelow Ave N. Bob served on the board of the Queen Anne Historical Society for many years as treasurer (1982-1987) vice president (1986-1988) and president (1984-86, 1988-1990). Bob was still an active board member when I joined in 2010. He participated in the production of Queen Anne: Community on the Hill and led the Archival Committee for many years. He never saw a reference to Queen Anne he didn’t clip, file, and add to our Archives. Bob avidly photographed the changing face of Queen Anne particularly as businesses came and went. Sadly, his large photograph collection disappeared when he moved to the nursing home. Bob was a great friend of Isabel Egglin who also served on the board and as the chief photographer of the modern images in the society’s book. Bob loved boasting of his job parking cars at 1st Ave W. and W. Thomas St. during the 1962 World’s Fair.

Robert Wood Frazier, 1941-2022

In 2004, after 30 years of courtship, Bob married Nadine Belcher Frazier, also a long-serving member of the Queen Anne Historical Society board. She predeceased him. Bob’s passion for local history led him to the Association of King County Historical Organizations where he served as president. Loyal to his anti-technology leanings, Bob never acquired a computer and regularly sent handwritten letters advising me about the society’s reckless trending. His enthusiasm for doing things the right way led to renouncing his membership in our organization when we ceased publishing a paper version of The Cobblestone. Acknowledging that excellent work has gone on, he recently rejoined. One board member reflected that the society thrived in the 1980s and 90s thanks to his diligence. We’ve lost a good friend who kindly asked that gifts in his memory be made to the Queen Anne Historical Society.

Sincerely,

Michael Herschensohn. President 2010-2021
